Introduction

Your hearing aid is your all-day companion, helping you play an active role in social relationships and conversations. It is an investment and to get the most out of it; you need to take care of it. The more you care for them, the more their lifespan increases and the better your hearing experience will be. We will walk you through the method of efficiently and safely cleaning your hearing aids.

How to clean your hearing aids?

Keep in mind that some of the tips are for all hearing aids and some specific types.

Step 1: Fetch your cleaning tools (all types)

Different hearing aids come with different cleaning tools. BTE hearing aid cleaning tool has a brush on one side and a wire on another. RIC and ITE hearing aid cleaning tools has a little brush on one side and a wire loop on the other.

Step 2: Remove the battery (all types)

If your device is not off, you might hear a loud sound when removing the ear hook to clean it. Remove the battery to make sure the device is off.

Step 3: Remove the ear hook (BTE only)

Before removing the ear hook from the device, check the user manual. A BTE hearing aid has either a snap-on style or a threaded style and both of them have different ear hook removal procedures.

Step 4: Clean the ear hook (BTE only)

Insert the cleaning wire tool into the triangular end of the ear hook, which connects to the hearing aid body and thread it through until the wire pops out at the other end.

Step 5: Clean the tip (all types)

Clean the tip of the ear machine that goes inside your ear.

Step 6: Clean the wax guard (RIC only)

Depending on the wax collection, the frequency of this step may vary. Visually examine the area of your device that is inserted deepest into your ear. If you notice wax, replace the wax guard. You should replace the wax guard if the volume of your hearing aid sounds like it has dropped.

Step 7: Clean the microphone and the body (all types)

To clean the body of the hearing aid, you will require a soft cloth. Gently wipe down the hearing aid with the cloth to get rid of any oil, sweat, or dirt.

Step 8: Re-attach the ear hook (BTE only)

Put the ear hook of the BTE hearing aid back.

Step 9: Insert the battery (all types)

Put the battery back into your hearing aid and enjoy the clear and crisp sounds from your newly cleaned hearing aid!
